FULBRIGHT-Thailand Research Fund JUNIOR RESEARCH
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2008


General Information/Provisions

The Thailand-U.S. Educational Foundation (Fulbright) in cooperation with the Thailand Research Fund (TRF) are pleased to announce the “Fulbright-Thailand Research Fund Junior Research Scholarship Program,” which is aimed to develop the capabilities of Thai university staff members to gain six months of research experience in the United States as part of their doctoral dissertation requirements.

Up to six (6) grants will be available for the 2008 academic year. One will be awarded under the Fulbright program and five will be under the Fulbright-TRF partnership. For the grant sponsored by TUSEF, benefits are intended to cover round-trip international airfare, monthly stipend for six months, books and supplies allowance, and an excess baggage allowance.

For grantees under the Fulbright-TRF partnership only;

the Foundation will assist the grantees in visa process, coordinate on the U.S. university placement and offer other non-monetary benefits i.e. enrichment seminars, international conferences etc which help grantees to get access to highly advanced institutions and create quality international networks. Financial support will be fully sponsored by the Thailand Research Fund.

Eligibility:

An applicant must:

1) Be a Thai citizen in good health (individuals holding U.S. immigrant visas or permanent U.S. resident cards (green cards), or dual (Thai and U.S.) citizenships are not eligible to apply.);
2) Be a university staff member at a tertiary level institution who is undertaking graduate work at the Ph.D. level in a Thai university (applicable for the one award under the Fulbright program only);
3) Be recommended by his/her employer for consideration;
4) Demonstrate strong academic performance at the graduate level;
5) Have appropriate background to undertake the proposal they have outlined;
6) Have the concurrence of the university Ph.D. program in which he/she is enrolled;
7) Have a paper-based TOEFL score of 525 or above (or at least 195 from a computer-based TOEFL test) or have IELTS scores of 6.5 or above;
8) Obtain written confirmation from a U.S. professor/scientist at the host institution that s/he will supervise the research; and
9) Be able to fully participate in every activity organized by the Foundation, e.g. Pre-departure Orientation Program which will be held during June.

The closing date for submission of applications, proposals, curriculum vitae, academic credentials, two letters of recommendation, a copy of the TOEFL/ IELTS test score report and written confirmation from U.S. institutions, is SEPTEMBER 14, 2007.
